Hints and advice
Advice for 1st year students
Hi my name is Rukevwe, and as a student entering second year of my degree first year was relatively manageable for me. Firstly, I played basketball during my free time and was part of ACS society.
My main advice to new people is to enjoy yourself, whilst at the same time still remember to keep up with lectures. This is easier said than done.
Because it's easy to get carried away by social life.
Social Life
- Hint: ('You don't have to go out every week')When assignments come your way, socialising time will reduce gradually
- Try not to be anti-social, any time your flatmates ask you to come out
- Avoid buying expensive drinks at clubs
- Ensure you avoid involvement in fights. As that's when you find yourself, in a f***ed up situation which is a major L under your belt
- Never let social life interfere with your studies
Making friends
- Try to join a couple societies and get to know new people from there
- Don't rely on people, you chill with at Freshers to help you if down and out as they are not 100% close to you
- BE YOURSELF!!! Nobody likes someone with a 'liquid personality', it shows too effort made to make friends
- It's preferable to keep your circles small. Having a small circle, isn't the worst thing in the world really?
- Keep your accommodation door open, it makes others feel welcomed
- Offer to cook for your flatmates, is a tremendous way to build friendships
- Helping each other with course assignments
Academic Life
- Please try and attend your lectures: it is waste of time and money, if you never bother to turn up
- Make sure you recap on notes and do background reading thoroughly
- Never leave work till the last minute
- Remember first year doesn't count towards your final degree; the weighting to pass is 40%
- Put in the work at the start, and you'll grind out better exam results
I hope all of you liked my blog. Would be great if some of you can share and comment?
I like this, keep it up and keep it coming.
